FAQ

- why haven't I heard of NLP?Neuro Linguistic programming was a school of thought that developed after CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). It was not researched for its therapeutic benefits to the same extent as CBT, but many coaches make use of a variety of NLP tools. The brain game online plays with the most popular NLP tools: reframing, anchoring, SWISH and modelling techniques.
-
- is NLP like CBT?In some ways. NLP and CBT were both developed to empower individuals to change unhelpful thinking and behavior patterns that prevent them from achieving their life goals. For more information this article is a useful review.
-
- can I play the brain game if I'm in therapy? If you are in a counselling, coaching or therapy process, please discuss the use of these games with your therapist prior to playing.
-
- are games enough to train my brain? That depends on what you'd like to achieve, and your overall state of mental health. Games can be an excellent way to embed a skill, and thebraingame.online is designed to support developing the skill of consciously choosing a positive thought. The games repeat NLP tools to help you make that choice. This article is a simple summary of how brain pathways affect thoughts.
-
- what if I have been diagnosed with a mental health condition? Please refer your mental health professional to thebraingame.online and discuss the appropriacy of using NLP techniques in your agreed treatment protocol. Do not adjust your protocol without discussion with your mental health support professional.
-
- does it matter if I don't play all the levels? The number of levels does not matter - but the order of playing does. Start with level 1.0 as it is important for the later levels. And levels 4 and 5 are more advanced, so levels 1-3 need to be played prior. Feel free to stop at any level. If you return to the game after some time, do refresh your skills by re-playing the levels from the start.
-
- how often should I play?Think of each level of the brain game as developing another skill - and everyone takes their own time in learning any skill. A good tip is when the game comes to mind in your daily life - then you've learnt the skill! In most cases, playing a game 2 or 3 times a week will help.
-
- can I skip straight to the level I want? No. The brain game has been created to develop skills progressively by each level. Please play in order and it is essential that you play level 1.0 as it is important for the other levels. Levels 4 and 5 are advanced and rely on techniques from earlier levels.
-
- am I too old (or too young) to play the games? There is no upper age limit to NLP: neuro scientific studies are growing on the neuroplasticity of the human brain and its ability to learn new ways of thinking into old age. There is no lower age restriction, although 16+ is advised.
-
- could playing the brain game be harmful? If you are receiving treatment or therapy please discuss playing the brain game with your healthcare practitioner. And if at any point playing a level leads to a negative outlook or creates a negative experience, please refrain from playing and seek further support. The content in each level is designed to encourage simple shifts in thinking and the ability for an individual to choose their own positive thoughts. It is not a treatment protocol or a therapy process and as such risks harm in no greater way than any other online gaming content.
-
- is it possible to add things to a particular game?Yes - you might find that instead of searching for an image, you paint a picture. Or instead of using a phrase you choose to use a piece of music. These are both good examples of proportional additions to a game. Please do use discretion. Any additions or activities you take are your decision and should remain safe and considerate of yourself and of others. All play is entirely your responsibility.
-
- why is the brain game not more widely available?Marketing of the brain game is to specific audiences only. Content is not distributed more widely via YouTube or IGTV to encourage a considered purchase process, and to secure and reserve all copyright and trademark rights.
